Save on Gas with the Fuel Rewards Network

Saturday, July 1st, 2017 - Uncategorized

The Fuel Rewards Network (FRN) is Shell’s loyalty program. It’s FREE to join and offers easy ways to save BIG at the pump.

How Does It Work?

There are three basic steps…

  1. Sign up
  2. Earn savings
  3. Redeem savings at the pump

How Do I Sign-Up?

To sign up, you’ll need to visit the Fuel Rewards Network website. Click on “Join For Free”

Fill in your personal information and hit continue until you get to this page…

Click on “I need a card, please send me one”

Confirm your address and click “order”

Add a MasterCard card to your account (if you do not link a MasterCard card, you will not get much out of this program. Debit and credit cards will both work)…

Your Fuel Rewards Network (FRN) card will arrive in the mail within 1 – 2 weeks. After you receive your card, you’ll need to activate your card. Don’t forget this step

How Do I Earn Savings?

There are a variety of ways to earn fuel savings…

  • Shopping Online
  • Dining Out
  • Buying Groceries
  • Using E-Coupons
  • Shopping at Shell
  • Buying Gift Cards
  • Limited-Time Offers
  • Shell Credit Card

Shopping Online

You can earn 5 cents off per gallon for every $50 you spent at merchants through the FRN shopping portal.

Some merchants earn 2x, 5x, or 10x rewards.

Simply, click on the “Shop & Earn” tab and then search for the merchant.

Click on the merchant name to be taken to their website (example: if you click on Gap, you’ll be taken to the normal Gap homepage) where you can shop just like normal.

Your savings will post to your account/card within 2 – 4 weeks.

Dining Out

You can earn 10 cents off per gallon for every $50 you spent at restaurants in the FRN network.

First, you must enroll and link a MasterCard card. Click on the “How it Works” tab and click on “Enroll in the Dining Program”

You must use your enrolled MasterCard card when paying at the participating restaurant. You can find a list of participating restaurants on the FRN website.

You’ll earn an additional 5 cents off per gallon on your first dine.

Buying Groceries

You can earn 3 cents off per gallon for every $100 you spent at participating grocery stores.

You must link a MasterCard card and use this card to pay at the participating grocery store. For example, you cannot link a MasterCard and then buy your groceries using a Visa card.

You can also link your grocery store card to your FRN card to combine your savings!

Using E-Coupons

You can earn additional gas savings by using FRN e-coupons.

To use eCoupons, first you need to link a participating grocery or drug store’s loyalty card to your FRN Account.

Browse the selection of eCoupons and click “Get it” to add an eCoupon to your rewards card.

Scan your rewards card at checkout when you purchase the selected item in-store, and the reward will be posted to your account within 2-14 days.

Shopping at Shell

Earn gas savings when purchasing car washes and auto services at Shell stations.

Make sure you also get a punch card for car washes at Shell — buy five, get one free!

Buying Gift Cards

You can also earn gas savings when purchasing gift cards at Shell stations.

Earn 5 cents off per gallon for every $50 spent on gift cards.

Limited Time Offers

This program has AWESOME promotional offers. The current offers include:

  • Earn 20 cents off per gallon for every $300 you spend on hotels and Enterprise car rentals when you use your linked MasterCard card
  • Earn 5 cents off per gallon for every $100 you spend at home improvement storeswhen you use your linked MaterCard card

I booked my recent free Airbnb stay using a MasterCard card that was linked to my FRN profile to earn 20 cents off per gallon.

They change the promotional offers every three months or so.

Shell Credit Card

I would not recommend this credit card but thought I would mention it because it is another way to earn gas savings. Here is the earning structure…

How to Redeem

It is very easy. Select “FRN Rewards” at the pump and then insert your FRN card. Then you can pump your gas just like normal. The discount is good for up to 20 gallons.

Today, I saved 80 cents per gallon thanks to FRN !!

Last thoughts…

I wouldn’t put a lot of effort into this loyalty program because the rewards are not as lucrative as some other loyalty programs (i.e. frequent flyer miles or hotel points).

However, there are a lot of simple things you can do (like e-Coupons, limited time offers, car washes at Shell) to help you save at the pump.
